I just participated in the SecureCon Hackfest, where we were introduced to some basic hacking security tools, and challenged to perform some basic hacks. In a field of people who are not exactly ignorant of the field, including several sysads from around the Uni and from outside, I won.
I found the file on all three machines ('ls */*/filename' is magic when 'find' and 'locate' have been disabled, but finding it on the windows machine was a lucky guess). I found the picture, and displayed it on my machine. And I found the Root password, which no-one else had done.
